300 GB MSS Working, need more space

Postby zp18zp18 » 13 Jul 2010 09:38

My MSS is working just fine. I am about out of space and want to upgrade to a larger NAS drive. I have a new 1 tb drive I would like to replace the 300 GB with.

Searching through the forum posts, I find lots of posts where the mss drive is dead or malfunctioning and the poster wants to recover it.

Mine is the older Maxtor with software 2.6.2 Shared Storage Plus. Serial B617Q8BH-300GB.

The seagate site shows MSS Quickstart software installed on one of the networked computers should be able to backup the data, however this is not an option in my quickstart. I don't want to necessarily backup the data, I would like to clone the 300GB to the new 1TB drive and it seems to me that I should be able to mount the 1tb in a USB sata enclosure, plug it into the MSS and move the entire contents over to the new drive, then put the 1TB in the MSS and go merrily along.

I can't find any post where this has been done or what software to use. The seagate tools use Acronis and it does not recognize any networked drives.

TIA, George Barrowcliff
